Carnevale!

Hello Lovies!
Ready to see all my fun pics from Carnevale? Hope so... 'cause that's what you're getting ;)

Anyhoo... If I had to describe Carnevale, I would say...
It's kind of like Halloween on crack.
HA! But I'm serious. Everyone is dressed up (especially kids!) in anything from traditional masks to typical Halloween costumes (think superheros, princesses, Scream masks, and just plain scary masks...)! But it's more than just costumes... it's lots of LOUD music, CRAZY floats, confetti EVERYWHERE, and kids shooting sillystring at EVERYONE! Oh and... no free candy. :(
It's basically just a BIG HUGE PARTY... in the street!
(I'm telling you... Sicilians seriously celebrate everything with a party... and they love to party in the street! So crazy! lol)

Street vendors sell everything from confetti to traditional masks to afro wigs!

I was a little overwhelmed... I don't like masks!

Mmm.. roasting chestnuts!

More traditional masks... pretty!
We bought some "authentic" Carnevale masks in Venice...
Venice is the only place in Italy that has a bigger Carnevale celebration than us!

That's confetti covering the street!
And look at all those people!

The Simpsons were in Aci Reale!

Literally, the whole Simpson family!
(p.s. Sicilians LOVE the Simpsons... lol)

The parade... they preview all the floats in the parade and then later you can find them in various locations throughout the town, all lit up, moving, and blasting music!

This clown band was in the parade... I obviously didn't take this picture (or go anywhere near them)... lol

HA! More floats... they're supposed to have a message/meaning... usually political... but we didn't get most of them!

My booboo at the Parade :)

Gypsies selling balloons, people dressed up, and confetti EVERYWHERE!

Soooo many people... and notice the confetti in everyone's hair! lol

This lil cutie didn't seem to be enjoying any of it... but isn't he precious!?

Ok so... these two boys couldn't have been more than 10-12 years old...
and their mom was just handing out cigarettes like they were CANDY!
(Notice: all 3 are smoking!!)

Yup, the 10 year old smoker caught me snapping pics of him... OOPS!

Little twin boys... throwing confetti everywhere!!

P.S. this is allllll political figures....

Hello there, Hillary Clinton!!
Seriously, wtf?

Umm... upside down cake with monster inside??

That's the Camel Cigarette camel... with more politicians...

Same float... with OBAMA!?

Not sure what he's doing back there with the devils... lol
But he was hanging out with the British Prime Minister and another politician from Germany... not sure what they were trying to say with this one... LOL

Just an old Sicilian Rastafarian... no big deal. lol!!

And yes, that's a TRACTOR pulling the float!! LOL

So, that's all the pics I have... but I didn't even begin to capture the Carnevale experience! Seriously... HALLOWEEN ON CRACK. HA!

Ciao Bellas!

Well hello there... Look what I did this weekend :)

Can I just say it feels like I've been away from blog-land for um, foreverrr?
We had a visitor this weekend... and I've been busy with school...
and of course I somehow got sucked into 2 different novels (oops).
But, I'm back... and I have some adventures to share!

#1. So actually, this was last weekend (whatev)
We went BACK up to Mt. Etna (um, anyone remember the video of the ERUPTION?! well, we went back up there THREE days after that. Yeah, my husband has lost his mind... or either he just really wanted to ski. idunno.)
It was my first time skiing though... and um, I hated it. So... I have no awesome ski bunny pics of me. Instead....

Girl crying in the snow...
No, that's not me (although she did have the EXACT SAME coat & pants)
Some crazy Italian girl got a phone call, freaked out crying and arguing with whoever...
and ran to this PILE OF SNOW to lay down and cry and argue... wtf?!
She got out of her perfectly dry, warm CAR to lay in the SNOW to cry...
Sometimes I seriously wonder about these people.

Me sitting in the car...
Um, did I mention that I hate skiing?
I didn't completely suck... I just hated it.
I'm from the South y'all... we don't do snow.
So instead I sat in the car and waited on everyone else to finish up :)

 My VDay Mani...
Oh and a weird-skinny Italiano Coca-Cola :) Mmm...

#2. THIS weekend was full of sunshine and perfect temperatures!
Oh and we had a guest... Aaron's friend, Steve!
We spent some time touring the sights with him...

Enjoying the amazing weather and views in Taormina (again lol)

It was SUNNYYYY!

Seriously, amazing views... and look at that water!

hehehe :)

Me and My Love Bug

Mt. Etna in the distance!

Aaron and Steve

In the distance you can actually see the mainland of Italy!!

The Straits of Messina separating Sicily and Italy

Love locks... all over Europe... so sweet!

So pretty... couldn't stop myself from taking 32495788621 pics..

Also in Taormina, we FINALLY got to see the Ancient Greek Theatre!

It was HOT... This is me wishing I had on shorts and a tanktop...

See that speck in the top?
That's a skydiver...
Everyone was taking advantage of the amazing weather!

The Greek Theatre in Taormina...
Still used for concerts and major film festivals..
big name celebs come here every year!!

Later that evening we went to Carnevale in Aci Reale!!
But I'm saving that for tomorrow ;)
Come back for some cool pics of the 2nd biggest Carnevale celebration in Italy!

Ciao Bellas!
